Play it Again!
Play it Again!
(not for class)
A quiet Sunday afternoon in Eugene Oregon where students are sleeping in and the campus is all but lively interesting pictures are hard to come by. After walking around the campus and taking some pictures of the sites U of O has to offer, I packed it up and began to head back towards my car. That was until I came back across the bridge to Autzen stadium to a parking garage where I could hear classical music playing from the fourth level. I went to investigate and found a small symphony of three women playing the violin, cello, and viola. Each one of them have been or are connected to the University of Oregon in someway. Sara Hodges a psychology professor, Elizabeth Pickford a retired financial aid administrator, and Jocelyn Hollander a sociology professor. Although, they met through a Eugene Symphony program called "Play it Again!" A program intended to bring back adults with past instrument experience and play it again. After graciously allowing me to stay and photograph they began to play some of the most amazing classical music. Afterwards I asked each of them "what would you say to someone trying to learn classical instruments or come back to playing?" Each of one them agreed that you should start or restart as soon as possible and to not worry it will always come back with time. Jocelyn Hollander would add that she believes giving money to early education music programs would be highly beneficial for youth trying to learn an instrument. The Eugene Symphony hosts two annual youth concerts at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts every year.
